The Procedure of obtaining Legal Metrology/ Weights and Measures Certificate


Legal Metrology Department Controller is the authorized department to grant the legal metrology license. Weight &measures product is manufactured/imported as per the model and specification specified by the Govt. of India. It is stamped and properly verified by the Legal Metrology Department inspector after the due verification, with a stamp for safeguarding the reliability of the stamp of Inspector in which it is verified. ASC helps the businesses to obtain legal metrology and measurement system to enhance transparency and clarity along with protecting the right of the consumers.

Procedure:

  • Any importer/manufacture/repairer/packer needs to obtain a legal metrology certificate for the manufacture of weights and measures the product had to apply in the attached format (LM-1).
  • Application to be primarily noticeable to district nodal officer is forward to local legal metrology officer / senior inspector according to the address of the firm.  
  • Local Senior Inspector/ Legal metrology officer conducts the scrutiny process of the firm and also reviews the documents, to ascertain the capacity and competence of the manufacture, then prepare a report and recommendation.
  • If there is an error in missing in the application process, the objection is raised by Asst. Controller, Local Inspector or Controller of any substantive shortcoming in the application, query/objection may be raised by Local Inspector, Asst. Controller or Controller.
  • After complying with all the application process, the Controller grants of License but you need to deposit the License fee as required. 
  • Once you have deposited the fee, thereof is received in the Controller’s office, the weight and measurement license will be issued.
DOCUMENTS to be annexed:-
·         Applicant/partner’s Identity and Address proof and Photograph
·         Birth certificate of applicant/partners.
·         Tenancy or Ownership document of the projected premises.
·         Partnership action of partnership firms.
·         Model approval certificate
·         NOC from pollution control Board, particularly in the Taj Trapezium Zone.
·         Product list of tools and machinery
·         Affidavit to state adhering to the directions and Legal provisions issued by the Controller.
·     Affidavit to the state of the applicant clarifying from Court on any criminal proceeding or record pending in any court.
·         Registration document of establishment / factory/ municipal trade / shop license
·         GST Registration copy
·         PAN Card copy
