Procedure and documents required for ETA Approval Registration

Equipment Type Approval (ETA) is required to promote importing "wireless" equipment into India. The ETA must be approved by the Wireless Planning and Coordination (WPC) department. Mobile phones, Bluetooth devices, RFID, Wi-Fi technology, and other items are covered by the WPC's Equipment Type Approval (ETA) program.

What do you need to know about ETA?

  • The Equipment Type Approval (ETA) is a mandatory requirement for any wireless devices and operate within the DE licence bands.
  • The Department of WPC monitors and controls the licence.
  • Only Indian agencies will be granted ETA, not by any foreign manufacturer's name.
  • The application must be submitted with a full copy of the RF test report.
  • The test reports must include the frequency span, resolution bandwidth, sweep, video bandwidth, and so on.
All manufacturers and importers of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities items must obtain WPC approval for an ETA certification.

Procedure for obtaining an ETA Certificate

Steps to receive an ETA Certificate:

  • The applicant must file an online application and a physical copy to WPC.
  • The WPC department must recognize, verify, and, if necessary, raise a query about the papers.
  • With the help of any Wireless Adviser, this application must be submitted to the Government of India. It must be presented in the format specified on the website.
  • The applicant must additionally present a copy of the accredited testing laboratory's Radio Test report. After inspecting the product and verifying such details as spectrum plot data and measurements, frequency range, video or resolution bandwidth, and so on, the accredited laboratory issues this RT report.
  • Following the applicant's needed rectification, WPC will follow a reasonable procedure before granting the Equipment Type Approval.

To request an application, you must provide the following information:

  • Address Proof
  • In the case of a foreign authority, complete information on the approved agency, as well as detailed product specifications and the model number
  • Specifications for the transmitter and receiver, including transmission frequency, etc.

Eligibility for ETA Registration

All manufacturers and importers of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities items must obtain WPC approval for an ETA Certificate.

Validity and renewal for ETA Certification?

The ETA certificate is issued for a specific model. There is no validity period if the model is created without any changes, and renewal is not required.

  3. Proof of possession of the premises.
  4. Online Fee receipt.
  5. Letter authorizing the experts to apply on behalf
  6. Certificate of the incorporation of the company
  7. PAN Card of the company
  8. The detailed technical guide about the product
  9. Letter Head
  10. Radio Frequency Report which must 

  • Out-of-band emissions
  • Peak power
  • Occupied bandwidth
  • Power spectral density
  • Frequency range
